Three more centers added to the Cape Verde Telemedicine Network

The beginning of December 2013 marked the expansion of the Cape Verde Telemedicine Network to three more telemedicine centers located in the islands of Maio, Boa Vista and Sao Nicolau. The experts of NOSi and CV Telecom managed to install and configure the equipment enabling connectivity in a record time after such equipment were purchased from Portugal. With the three centers that were recently added, the Integrated Telemedicine and e-Health Program of the Republic of Cape Verde now connects nine centers located in eight islands of the archipelago. The technical team of the International Virtual e-Hospital Foundation that is implementing the ITeHP-CV had previously deployed the videoconferencing equipment and telemedicine carts since July 2013. After the connectivity is completed the three centers are able to connect to the country networks of clinical telemedicine and virtual education program. Only the health center located in the island of Brava remains out of network. The installation in Brava is scheduled to take place in the beginning of January 2014 thus completing the Cabo Verdean Telemedicine and e-Health Network. “Cape Verde is an outstanding example of how fast a telemedicine and e-health program can progress if a committed and professional implementing agency joins forces with a visionary donor and welcoming host country institutions” – Prof. Rifat Latifi, Project Director and IVeH President wrote recently in an article.
The ITeHP-CV is financed by the Republic of Slovenia and implemented by International Virtual e-Hospital Foundation through ITF Enhancing Human Security. The program started in July 2012 and in something more than one year has managed an enormous transformation of the Cabo Verdean healthcare system as far as information technology, telemedicine and e-health is concerned.
