Norway contribution to ITF in 2009
International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) has again received the Kingdom of Norway donation for 2009 in amount of 3.304.900 EUR. The thirtheenth donation of Kingdom of Norway will be earmarked for continuation of mine action activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
The donation will be used for the support of NGO “Norwegian People's Aid” mine action activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1.731.080 EUR) and Croatia (1.573.820 EUR) and will significantly contribute to the mine clearance efforts in both countries.
Since 1999, Norway contributed to ITF more than 27 million EUR for demining and mine victims assistance programs and remains one of the most regular supporters of ITF activities in the region of South East Europe.
Goran Ga?nik, ITF Director at the occasion said: “ITF emphasises the regional cooperation in the region of South East Europe that involves interstate cooperation in mine action to ensure a cost-effective and most efficient use of donations. With the support of donor community, among which the Norway plays the major role, the mine affected countries in the region of South East Europe are reaching their goals of mine free countries more efficiently and enhancing the socio-economic conditions for living.”
During the 11 years of ITF presence in the region of South East Europe, ITF with the widespread community of its donors raised more than 246 million EUR, cleared more than 93 million square meters of land, rehabilitated almost 1000 mine victims and enabled mine risk education to more than 150.000 children in the region of South East Europe.
