"Key to peace" news conference was held in town of Kastav in the Republic of Croatia and organized by Primary School "Milan Brozovi?”. The idea for the news conference originates from the school itself which together with partners (town of Kastav, Croatian Mine Action Centre and the Forum for Freedom in Education) informed visitors of the news conference about the principles of education for peace, promotion of tolerance, non-violence and peaceful conflict resolution.
Diligent teachers and children from the “Team for civic education and democracy” of the Primary School "Milan Brozovic” voiced their message of peace stating that this kind of education should be taught from an early age and that children can contribute to their own as well as wider social quality of life. Accordingly, the school launched a campaign named "7 kunas for a risk-free play" together with Croatian Mine Action Centre, with the purpose of collecting funds for demining a mine field in the vicinity of settlement in Li?ki Osik in Lika – Senj County, a campaign that will last until the end of this school year.
Confronted with the harsh reality that there are still places in Croatia where children can not play freely due to danger from mines, children from primary school “Vežica” and primary school “Milan Brozovi?” have each raised 10.000 HRK through the sale of their own works and other fund-raising actions and handed the cheque to CROMAC and ITF at the news conference. The motto of the project and the news conference "Let battlefields become playgrounds and let playground become peacegrounds" has received support from other primary schools in the Rijeka region as well as from various companies from Primorje-Gorski Kotar County who will offer their own support in collecting the funds for demining. ITF will be involved in this project by doubling all funds that will be collected by children for this particular demining project.
