The Day provides an opportunity to draw additional attention to the problem of landmines and explosive remnants of war and highlight the vigorous efforts to counter this challenge. It is a day when we have to remember thousands of people killed and injured due to landmine threat and give us a chance to stop just for a second and review our past work and make new plans for future, which will lead us to accomplishment of our vision - a world free of the threat from post-conflict and disruptive challenges, including landmines and where the security of individuals and communities is assured. In support of 2011 Mine Action Day, the following ITF presentation movie was published (click here).
ITF is actively involved in Mine Action since the establishment in 1998. With outstanding support from ITF donors, ITF managed to raise 330.182.752,82 USD and complete more than 2.600 projects. More than 109 million square metres of land in SE Europe and 2 million square metres of land in South Caucasus were cleared and returned to local population. The rehabilitation treatment was provided to 1.076 mine survivors. More than 40.000 children and adults were involved in ITF supported Mine Risk Education projects on annual basis and training given to more than 800 Mine Action experts from the region of SE Europe.
ITF would like to express deepest gratitude for all the support and cooperation from donors, recipient countries, implementing partners and other relevant stakeholders in common effort and determined struggle to eradicate landmine problem in the world.
