Republic of Slovenia is one of more than hundred state parties of the Cluster Munition Convention, banning the use, production, stockpiling and transfer of cluster munitions, the destruction of stockpiles, the clearance of affected land and the provision of assistance to victims and affected communities. In the week from 12 to 16 September 2011, ITF representatives have participated on 2nd Meeting of the States Parties in Lebanon, as an observer organization.
On the meeting Mr Dorijan Marši?, ITF Director gave short presentation on ITF activities, results and plans for the future with a special aim to detailed presentation of ITF projects in the field of cluster munition clearance and rehabilitation of victims in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Lebanon. According to the UN database, South Lebanon suffers with the contamination of approximately 4 million cluster munitions/bombs scattered around the land, as a result of armed conflict in 2006. Beside presented activities, ITF has implemented also cluster munitions clearance projects in Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and UNMIK Kosovo*. ITF Director sincerely expressed the importance of cluster munition convention and called countries to join them with an aim to step towards correct path to make an end of atrocities, that are still being present after the armed conflicts ended. During the meeting ITF representatives focused its time and forces also on very important fund raising actives for its cluster munition projects in Serbia and Lebanon.
