ITF hosting RASR conference in Bled

ITF as a member of RASR initiative aims to increase regional security
The RASR initiative (Regional Approach to Stockpile Reduction www.rasrinitiative.org) conference is being held in Bled, where interested governments have been invited to develop a coordinated regional approach in providing adequate protection, safeguarding and destruction of conventional weapons and ammunition.
ITF Enhancing Human Security is organizing and hosting the RASR conference and workshop in Bled from April 3 – 5 with aim to increase regional security through prevention of accidental explosions of stockpiled weapons and ammunition. The Regional Approach to Stockpile Reduction (RASR) is a long-term, coordinated, regional approach to address the threats posed by excess, unstable, loosely secured or otherwise at-risk stockpiles of conventional weapons and munitions in South East Europe. Recent explosions that have occurred in Brazzaville, the capital of Congo and at the military depot in Cyprus caused humanitarian disaster and had a devastating effect on national economies.
ITF is organizing and hosting the RASR conference and workshop for the second time in Slovenia. Topics such as legislation in the field of transportation and destruction of surplus ammunition on the regional level and the strengthening of the regional approach are being discussed during the conference. As a member of the RASR initiative ITF is dedicated to the expansion of its activities and dissemination of its acquired knowledge towards further development of the countries in the immediate vicinity.
ITF Enhancing Human Security has cleared and surveyed post-explosion areas in ammunition depot in Gerdec Albania (following the army depot explosion in 2008) and completed the clearance project of unexploded ordnance in Chelopechene, Bulgaria following an explosion at the army weapons storage facility.
