ITF at the 7th French National Humanitarian Conference in Paris, France
Organized by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the conference addressed topics including the protection of civilians and humanitarian personnel, the reform of the international aid system, localization and the sharing of resources, as well as new forms of partnership and financing. The opening session featured an address by French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot.
For ITF, the discussions on localization and capacity building were particularly relevant. Strengthening local capacities and working closely with partners are central to ITF’s approach, and being part of these conversations provides an opportunity to exchange experience, learn from other organizations and contribute to discussions on how international support can better reinforce locally led solutions.
The conference also provided an opportunity for ITF to meet with representatives of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs involved in supporting its mine action programme in Syria. This provided an opportunity to exchange directly on the programme, its implementation and the importance of sustained support for locally led mine action.
France has been an important partner of ITF and currently supports the programme, which is implemented with ITF’s local project partner, Reachout, and co-financed by Slovenia and Korea. Beyond addressing explosive hazards, the programme also contributes to strengthening the skills and capabilities of local actors, supporting their ability to lead mine action efforts in their own communities.
ITF is grateful to the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Government of France for their continued support and for the opportunity to take part in this year’s conference. We value the opportunity to exchange with partners and donors and to contribute to discussions that can strengthen cooperation, local capacity, and effective action on the ground.
