Empowering Lives: ITF's Ongoing Support for Lebanon Mine Action Center

LMAC's Global Impact: Showcasing Success to the Donor Community
Beyond the dedicated fieldwork, LMAC took center stage at the 51st ITF Board of Advisors meeting in Ljubljana held on 20 November 2023. In a poignant presentation, they shared their tireless efforts and remarkable achievements with the global donor community as well as presented their challenges to achieve a mine free Lebanon. This participation not only highlighted LMAC's crucial role but also emphasized the importance of collaboration and support from the international community.
During the visit, they also met with the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.

In a demonstration of appreciation, the ITF team went beyond the boardroom discussions. Following the productive sessions, the ITF team extended a warm welcome to the LMAC representatives by taking them on a memorable sightseeing tour. This not only provided a cultural exchange but also served as a testament to the strong bond forged between the organizations. Such gestures of solidarity and friendship underscore the collaborative spirit driving the collective mission towards a safer, mine-free world.

In the relentless pursuit of a safer world, ITF and its donors stand united with LMAC, acknowledging that behind every success is a human story – a story of hope, determination, and the possibility for individuals to live in a world free from the shadows of conflict. The journey continues, as ITF remains committed to empowering lives and supporting Lebanon to transform into a land free of mines. Each cleared piece of land signifies a safer playground for children, a fertile ground for agriculture, and a space where families can rebuild their homes. The physical and emotional rehabilitation of victims becomes a testament to resilience, as they regain control of their lives and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of Lebanese society.
Capacity Building: Strengthening Lebanon's Resolve
Supported by the generous contribution of the United States of America, ITF has been a steadfast partner in enhancing Lebanon's national capacities since 2015. As of 2022, ITF's support extended further, directly assisting LMAC with essential equipment, specialized training, and addressing their priority needs. This strategic partnership reinforces LMAC’s commitment to a robust and sustainable national mine action program.

Victim Assistance: Rebuilding Lives, Restoring Dignity
The Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Korea, through ITF, have played a pivotal role in victim assistance initiatives. Thanks to both, ITF intensified its efforts in 2022-2024, addressing the urgent health, psychosocial, and economic needs of mine victims in Lebanon. This comprehensive approach aims to improve the overall quality of their lives and facilitate a seamless reintegration into social, and economic spheres.

Clearance: Transforming Land, Transforming Lives
ITF has been supporting cluster munition clearance in Lebanon since 2009. Clearance is of crucial importance since land is returned to local communities for further productive use, alleviating the pressure on land amidst economic challenges. In 2023, ITF continued its support, clearing an additional 30,000 square meters of land in South Lebanon with the support of Republic of Korea as the key donor. This not only holds socio-economic significance but also saves lives by providing risk education to a growing population.
