Dr. Anica Mikuš Kos Awarded the Presidential Medal of Merits
On February 18, 2025, Dr. Anica Mikuš Kos was awarded the Presidential Medal of Merits by the President of the Republic of Kosovo*, Dr. Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, in recognition of her lifelong commitment to humanitarian work. Since the post-war period, Dr. Anica has played a crucial role in supporting psychosocial rehabilitation, mental health, human rights, and education in Kosovo*, with a particular focus on children. Through her efforts, she has helped young survivors of conflict regain a sense of stability, access education, and rebuild their futures.

The official ceremony, held on the eve of Kosovo*’s Independence Day, gathered representatives from government institutions, civil society, the international community, and Dr. Anica’s closest collaborators. Among them was Slovenian Ambassador to Kosovo*, H.E. Ms. Minca Benedejčič. Later that day, the Institute for the Promotion of Education (IPEDU) hosted a gathering of Dr. Anica’s colleagues and friends to mark this special occasion. During the event, longtime colleague Mr. Ramush Lekaj reflected on Dr. Mikuš Kos’ decades of work in Kosovo* and North Macedonia. He shared a historical overview of her impact and delivered congratulations on behalf of ITF Director Amb. Tomaž Lovrenčič, as well as Slovenian and Kosovan officials. He emphasized the meaningful and lasting impact of her work on countless individuals and communities.
Dr. Anica Mikuš Kos has been an integral part of ITF’s mission for many years and one of Faces of ITF, particularly in the field of mental health and victim assistance. As one of the most respected figures in humanitarian efforts, she has not only shaped vital programs but has also been a guiding force in ITF’s approach to supporting those affected by conflict. ITF is honored to have and continues to work alongside dr. Mikuš Kos and congratulates her on this well-deserved recognition.
