Dr. Aleš Musar Visits Brčko with ITF Director to Support Mine Victims
On 6 March 2024, ITF Enhancing Human Security had the honor of welcoming Dr. Aleš Musar, spouse of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, to Brčko, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Accompanied by ITF Director Amb. Tomaž Lovrenčič, Dr. Musar participated in the presentation of humanitarian aid results for landmine victims, organized by the local non-governmental organization Posavina bez mina, ITF’s local partner organization.
During the visit, Dr. Musar met with individuals and families affected by landmines, many of whom have received crucial medical and psychosocial support through ITF’s projects. He also visited beneficiaries who have been able to rebuild their livelihoods through small-scale agriculture and community engagement, thanks to humanitarian assistance. His presence underscored Slovenia’s continued commitment to humanitarian efforts in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in supporting survivors of landmine accidents.
The event highlighted the impact of ITF’s longstanding work in the region. To date, ITF has cleared over 120 million square meters of minefields in Bosnia and Herzegovina and provided direct assistance to nearly 1,000 landmine survivors and their families. Thanks to the generosity of donors such as the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Slovenia, these projects continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected.
ITF is grateful for Dr. Musar’s visit and his recognition of the vital work being done in Brčko. As landmine clearance efforts progress, sustained support for victims and their communities remains essential to ensuring long-term recovery and resilience.
