Completion of demining activities in National Park Krka
On 12 March 2013, Mr. Dorijan Maršič, ITF Director attended the official handover ceremony of demining certificate following the completion of demining activities on demining project funded by National Park Krka. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Kenneth Merten, US ambassador to Croatia, Mr. Tonči Restović-NP Krka director, Mr. Dražen Jakopec-director of Croatian Mine Action Center - CROMAC, prof.dr.sc. Dijana Pleština- Director of the Office for Demining of the Republic of Croatia and Mr. Goran Pauk-Šibenik Knin County prefect.
Through matching fund mechanism of the United States of America - Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, ITF provided matching funds for clearance of 204.417 sq. meters of mine contaminated land , the only remaining mine contaminated area in the National Park Krka. The project area consisted of five project areas that stretched along the canyon of the river Krka within the boundaries of the National Park Krka. Five separate project areas administratively belong to the areas of three towns: Šibenik, Drniš and Skradin. The clearance of the project area had a twofold effect: the clearance increased the safety of the locals and enabled the National Park Krka to be declared free of mines allowing the park to finally conclude its longtime mine clearance.
