Awareness Campaign on Socio-Economic Reintegration of Mine Victims in Azerbaijan

On 28 November 2011, the ITF in partnership with the IOM Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action initiated awareness raising campaign on socio-economic reintegration of mine victims and persons with disabilities in Azerbaijan. Additionally, the campaign strives to promote development cooperation efforts in Azerbaijan and to contribute to the regional cooperation and confidence building efforts in the South Caucasus.
On 29 November 2011, the ITF and the IOM Azerbaijan carried out news conference at the Hyatt Meeting and Conference Centre in Baku to present the project activities and results to more than 40 representatives from the national authorities, diplomatic missions, international and non-government organizations and media. The news conference also featured presentation of the documentary film “A Way to Reintegration” produced as a part of the ITF run project “South Caucasus Socio-Economic Reintegration Programme for Mine Victims”. The event received substantial media attention and was covered by the several news agencies (APA, GUN.AZ, TREND, SALAMNEWS) as well as the national (AzTV) and numerous local TV stations (Space TV, Interaz TV, Regional TV, İctimai TV). In a follow-up period the documentary film was broadcasted all over Azerbaijan by 5 TV stations.
The awareness campaign activities in Azerbaijan were supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation /Austrian Development Agency through the ITF. The project activities in Azerbaijan have been supported by the ADC/ADA, Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action, Baku International Rotary Club, Korea, Glickenhaus Foundation through MLI and Slovenia.
