Winter workshops for young mine victims from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia in Slovenia
The International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victim Assistance (ITF) in cooperation with Croatian Mine Victims Association organized “winter workshops” for young mine victims in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. 40 children and youngsters from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia participated in the workshops. All participants and their escorts stayed in the youth hostel “Vladimir Nazor” in Kranjska Gora for 10 days. Croatian Mine Victim Association secured the participation of two special ski-instructors from Switzerland. In addition to ski classes youngsters participated in other workshops as well (music, photo…). For some of the youngsters this was their first attempt at skiing. The response of young mine victims was tremendous and there is a strong interest in taking part in another similar workshop next year.
The donor for the project “Rehabilitation for young mine victims” was the US State Department. A similar “summer workshop” for young mine victims is organized for a fifth year in a row in Rovinj, Croatia. Our wish is that the “winter workshop” in Kranjska Gora becomes an annual event as well.
