The fifth donation of Karlovac County through ITF

Karlovac County and ITF signed the Memorandum of Understanding for 350.000 HRK (or 47,827.28 EUR) in the premises of Karlovac County today. The 2010 donation will be used for demining activities in the municipality Josipdol, Karlovac County and will be matched by the United States donation to ITF in the same amount. Josipdol is the second largest area in Karlovac County, with another 13.2 square kilometers of mine suspected area.
ITF cooperates with the Croatian national authorities in the field of mine action since 1999, and until now with the support of the donor community for the Republic of Croatia spent more than 42 million EUR for demining of over 26 million square meters of mine contaminated area. Together with the Vukovar - Srijemsko County, Karlovac County represents the first area where the ITF began its operations in Croatia. The area of Karlovac County is considered one of the most mine contaminated areas in the territory of Croatia.
After signing ceremony ITF Director, Mr. Dorijan Marši? said:« Donor community welcomes the efforts of the local authorities for the elimination of mines in Karlovac County. These efforts are much more valuable when the mine threat is gradually reduced and most importantly, that the planned demined areas can allow further development programs in the County. ITF wishes that even more local authorities in the Republic of Croatia would recognize the value added of ITF-US matching fund mechanism.«
