New Swiss donation to ITF for demining and technical survey activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina

ITF Enhancing Human Security received new donation from Switzerland, one of the most regular supporters of the ITF, in the amount of 350.000 CHF. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 19 March 2012 at the Embassy of Switzerland in Ljubljana, by H.E. Mr Robert Reich, Swiss Ambassador to Slovenia and Mr Dorijan Marši?, ITF Director. The donation is earmarked for demining and technical survey activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, more precizely for locations in Canton Sarajevo and Bosnia Posavina. Activities will be carried out by the Norwegian People's Aid (NPA), which has been active in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996. In total, Switzerland has contributed to the ITF more than 6.96 million CHF for demining activities in South East Europe.
Demining activities remain one of the most necessary conditions for socio-economic development of the mine contaminated countries, especially in Bosnia in Herzegovina, which is one of the most mine contaminated countries in the world. Since the start of operations ITF has, together with support of donor community, cleared more than 61.68 million square metres of mine suspected areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
