Japan Supports Mine Clearance Activities in Serbia

In 2018, ITF Enhancing Human Security (ITF) and Embassy of Japan in Serbia signed a grant contract in the amount of 564,500 EUR for the project Turijska Brda in Municipality of Bujanovac. The project foresees mine clearance activities of 389,220 square meters, making Serbia one step closer to resolving its mine problem.
On Friday, 14 June 2019, Ambassador Maruyama and First Secretary Mr Ono from Embassy of Japan in Serbia visited the mine clearance project location Turijska Brda. They were accompanied by representatives of Mine Action Centre of Serbia (SMAC) and ITF. Mr Jovica Simonović, director of SMAC and Mr Gregor Sančanin, ITF, presented the overall situation in Serbia with regard to mine and cluster bomb situation. Various demining techniques were presented to the Japanese delegation as well as demining equipment.
ITF is looking forward to continue the excellent cooperation with the donor community, national authorities and Mine Action Centre of Serbia.
