ITF Visits Donor Coordination Workshop in Ukraine
ITF Director, Ambassador Tomaž Lovrenčič, participated in an international donor coordination workshop on demining in Ukraine, held in Kyiv from April 15 to 17, 2024. The workshop, organized by the GICHD, provided a platform for Ukraine to present its humanitarian demining strategy for the next decade. With a significant portion of Ukraine's territory potentially contaminated by mines and other explosive ordnance, effective coordination of national and international efforts is paramount for swift and efficient mine clearance.
During his visit, Ambassador Lovrenčič engaged with various stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the National Mine Action Authority, as well as officials from Japan, France, Spain, Switzerland, and others. Discussions revolved around potential peace and security initiatives in Ukraine, building upon the successes and progress achieved through ongoing projects.
Furthermore, Ambassador Lovrenčič, along with Ambassador Mateja Prevolšek of the Republic of Slovenia to Ukraine, visited the Superhumans Medical Rehabilitation Center in Lviv, where an ITF project on the medical rehabilitation of mines/ERWs victims, supported by a generous donation from the Republic of Korea, is underway.
Additionally, they met with the Ministry of Social Policy to address current needs in victim assistance, mental health, and psycho-social support.
