ITF Visits Abuja, Nigeria

Between 10 and 14 February 2019 ITF Director Ambassador Lovrenčič visited Nigeria in order to assess and possibly expand good practices of the ITF project across the whole (ECOWAS) region. In past few years ITF has been actively engaged in implementation of EWARP with ECOWAS Commission in the ECOWAS Member States. EWARP’s main goals are to strengthen the capacity of ECOWAS Member States to identify, respond to, and stem developing crises more efficiently.
The support to ECOWAS is expected to impact and improve on the operations of the ECOWAS peace architectures and complement its efforts at mobilizing citizens’ participation in peace and security at the local and national levels. By extension, this support by United States of America will improve on the peace and security atmosphere in the region through a more robust early warning and response system.
ITF Director took this opportunity to meet with various stakeholders in Nigeria. He met with representatives of Sweden, France, ECOWAS, Korea, United Kingdom and United States of America, where he discussed possible activities in the field of peace and security in West Africa. With success and progress of EWARP project, ITF will continue to build upon the good practices and experience in the future, thus enhancing human security across Africa.
