»Evaluating Mine Action« workshop launched

On Monday 1st February 2010, ITF launched five day regional workshop "Evaluating Mine Action" for 40 participants, experts working in mine action in the region of South East Europe from government and non-governmental sector in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Workshop have been also attended by the United Nation's technical advisers operating in the mine action programs in Afghanistan, Lebanon and Sudan.
Evaluating Mine Action Training Workshop organized by the International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance (ITF) and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) provides an unique opportunity for mine action stakeholders to develop basic knowledge of evaluation concepts, processes and methods as well as assist mine action officials and practitioners in assuming enhanced roles in the evaluation function (e.g. commissioning, designing and/or conducting evaluations).
In 2009, GICHD organised first such workshop for mine action personnel in South-East Asia (Bangkok, March 2009) and together with the ITF the second workshop in Caucasus (Tbilisi, July 2009). Based on the feedback received from participants that attended workshops, ITF is confident that excellent partnership between ITF, GICHD and the World Bank (IPDET program) will continue in the future with workshops implemented in other mine contaminated countries and regions.
