Czech Prime Minister's Site Visit in Croatia
The Prime Minister of Czech Republic H.E. Mr. Mirek Topolánek visited the town of Tordinci in Vukovar Srijem County on 10 September 2008. Vukovar Srijem County is one of the largest mine contaminated counties in Croatia. The mine suspected area (MSA) in Vukovar Srijem County amounts to 79% of the total County area.
On that occasion the Prime Minister handed over a check in the amount of € 100.000 representing the donation from the Czech Republic for the demining of mined areas in the municipality of Tordinci. The area of 120.000 sq.meters will be cleared of mines with the donation from the Czech Republic.
ITF director Mr.Goran Ga?nik and Marija Plesec Pongrac from the ITF office in Sisak, Croatia were present at the check handover ceremony. The original donation will be matched by funds through ITF.
From 1999 to 2008 ITF has cleared more than 4.100 sq. meters of land in Vukovar Srijem County (with1.960 mines and 380 UXO found and destroyed). Since the start of operations ITF has cleared more than 24,5 million sq. meters of mine suspected areas in Croatia with more than 5.800 mines and 1.750 UXO found and destroyed.
