Explosive Hazards Response and Reduction Exchange Programme Visit to Tajikistan

In period 27-30 August 2013, ITF has with the support provided by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan and Republic of Korea organized »Explosive Hazards Response and Reduction Exchange Programme Visit to Tajikistan«, which was hosted by Tajikistan Mine Action Centre and Tajikistan Ministry of Defence. The program was implemented in close cooperation with Lebanon Mine Action Centre and UNIFIL/UNMAST who have presented the Lebanese case study.
During 4 days long workshop with a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises (field work), following objectives were addressed:
- Enhance understanding and exchange experiences of the processes and proceedings in engaging national Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Humanitarian de-mining capacities in support of peacekeeping operations.
- Enhance understanding and exchange experiences on the role of security forces in development of the national EOD and humanitarian de-mining capacities.
The visit falls within an OSCE initiated effort and a system of mechanism to support the participating States in Central Asia and Afghanistan, in addressing the concerns and challenges stemming from Explosive Hazards (EH) through technical cooperation.
Altogether over 40 representatives from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan serving in the military and security sector as well as serving in national humanitarian mine action institutions participated at Exchange Programme visit to Tajikistan.
