Cyprus Aid support to DCA's BAC programme in Lebanon
H.E. Dr. Kyriacos Kouros, Ambassador of Cyprus in Lebanon joined together with the representative of ITF, Mr. Iztok Ho?evar and DCA Programme Manager, Mr. Claus Nielsen in a follow-up evaluation visit to the village of Toulin in South Lebanon, where the donation of CyprusAid contributed to clearance of agricultural land, housing and roads. CyprusAid donation in the amount of 100.000 euros helped clear 52.850 sqm of land in three villages in the South Lebanon namely, Toulin, Aytarun and Aynata which was put in the use immediately after it was certified by the Lebanon Mine Action Centre. During the visit of the village of Tuline the cleared land was already planted with tobacco, olive trees and other crops that represent a vital income for the local population. Additionally, 4 houses where already in the process of reconstruction.
The donation of the CyprusAid was also highly important for the continuous operations of DCA, which was facing a funding gap during the beginning of 2010 and would be, without this donation, forced to stop the operations.
DCA has been working in South Lebanon since 2007 and is the international NGO with the best performance in Lebanon, including safety, quality and productivity.
ITF would like to thank CyprusAid for the generous and important support to the mine action programme in Lebanon.
